Learning To Blog...

Hello all and welcome to my (Mat's) side of the ratworks diary / research page.

Rob’s page can be found here.

We both thought that it would be a good idea to get our pages going over the summer, as both of us have zero experience writing a blog. I actually started another unrelated blog last week, to get the hang of it a little more (link).

Doing a little research into how to write a blog seems like the most appropriate start to my research blog. The interface is actually pretty user friendly, but any and all help I’ve had has come from the google help page, for things like font and formatting issues: Blogger Support

"<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Hello all and welcome to my (Mat's) side of the ratworks diary / research page.</span></div>"
This is the html code from my first paragraph, this stuff will give me nightmares...
Thanks to this page for showing me how to display html code literally.

It’s actually surprisingly easy to do, the difficult part is getting used to reading html code when things don’t quite go to plan. I’ve found that the best course of action when writing is to copy and paste directly from Word, as it copies over a “style board”, which basically overwrites any formatting html on the page. Simply put; it forces the page to use the font you want it to, which I had considerable trouble with while not using the Word style board.

This is the Word 'style board' which makes life so much easier...

Initially Rob and I wanted our blogs to have a matching theme, but have (for the moment) decided to use themes we each like. I suppose it makes them easier to differentiate between at a glance…

Next on my to-do list is to get to designing a logo that hopefully both Rob and I actually like...
