Set Layout Sketches

Now that the look of the set is beginning to form in both mine and Rob's minds we decided we should get started with some sketches and plans etc.

Once you have something coherent down on paper it's much easier to change and improve things, than to fully envision a completely finished design outright.

Doing designs in stages, or doing multiple designs helps you iron out a multitude of things, scale for example is extremely difficult to get right straight off the bat. Especially when 2 people are working together and imagine completely different things! This allows us to compare our designs, pick the good bits from each, and remove the weak bits...

So I'll quit my jibber-jabber now, and show you some of the first sketches:

This is a my first layout sketch. In black and white it might not make a whole lot of sense... As we get closer I'll start to colour bits, and hopefully that will make things clearer.

To get some idea the 2 dots are where the mimes will be, the large 'H' is the 2 sides of the square, joined by the bridge, and the circles with crosses are tables.

Here I took the image of the square in Siena, because it was so close to what I was imagining, and editted it slightly to get a better idea of scale, using the perspective and the buildings already there. This was a very useful step... The angle gave us a much better idea of scale than just an birds-eye plan.

We have also realised that we have yet to actually blog our synopsis development and our script development, so expect that today or tomorrow!
